Our friendly UofG Security team are here for you over the Winter Vacation and throughout the year.

Here are some top tips to give you extra peace of mind as Semester 1 comes to a close.

  1. Download SafeZone: Every student at UofG, can access the SafeZone App, monitored 24 hours a day by the UofG security team, to help ensure your safety and security – whether it be on campus, at halls or anywhere in between
  2. If you find it helpful try to plan your journey in advance: Know your route home and if possible, share your location with trusted friends and family
  3. Have Emergency Contacts Ready: Save key numbers under ‘ICE’ (In Case of Emergency) in your phone for quick access.
  4. Travel in groups: Safety shouldn’t depend on being in a group, but it can provide extra peace of mind. You could agree a meeting point if you or someone you know is separated from the group.
  5. Be aware of spiking: Spiking is a crime and responsibility lies with those who do it. You can keep drinks in sight or give your drink to someone you trust if you have to leave it. There are multiple ways to identify a spiked drink; excess fizziness, change in taste, and a cloudy/foggy appearance, but drinks can also show no signs of it. Confusion, dizziness, nausea, and loss of verbal communication skills are also common signs that someone has been spiked. If you feel suddenly unwell or suspect spiking, seek venue staff or emergency services for support.
  6. Drinking Alcohol: If you choose to drink alcohol it can be helpful to be mindful of your limits, eating can help absorb alcohol, and drinking water can help you stay hydrated. Find out more about Harm Reduction relating to alcohol and drug useYou can also access support via the NHS.
  7. Keep Phones Charged & Secure: Having a fully charged phone can be helpful in case of emergency. Keep important contacts handy. For more information on keeping your phone safe visit the Police Scotland Website.
  8. Protecting your valuables: We recommend registering and insuring your belongings for peace of mind and keeping personal items with you rather than leaving them unattended in communal areas. Consider using a UofG locker if you are on campus.
  9. Stay Safe Online: Find out more about staying safe online with the UofG Online Safety Tips
  10. Report suspicious activity: If you see something that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, including online harassment or hate, you can report it.

For any emergencies on campus please use SafeZone or Phone 0141 330 4444 (Main Campus) or 0141 330 2222 (Garscube Campus)
